So often, "the wife" is such a thankless role written purely to move other things along, but she's absolutely a human being in this. deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003758772971289930.post-89879333926586975932020-05-12T12:27:15.047-04:002020-05-12T12:27:15.047-04:00After liking YellowBrickRoad so much and then read...After liking YellowBrickRoad so much and then reading your review of Witch in the Window a while back, I was curious about it. I finally got around to watching it last night and I loved it!

Your review was spot on -- there was really nothing new here yet it was somehow one of the scariest films I've seen in a while. I even convinced my wife to watch it with me because I said your review made it sound like horror-lite but she abandoned me halfway through because she couldn't take it. I don't blame her, as I was wide-eyed and jumped several times, which is awesome. After 30 years of watching disturbing stuff, jumps are hard to come by, so I'm really happy with this one.

I particularly liked the mother/wife character. It was surprising how well fleshed-out she was despite having minimal screen time. It's amazing what a good script and believable acting can do.

Also worth noting is the lack of any crazy special effects. It seems like some makeup on a lady was about it, which is mind-blowing to me. In this day and age of CGI explosions and fight scenes, it's wild to see a film be so effective with such minimal effects.

Thanks for the recommendation!normhttp://crimsonhighway.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
